Doucement
by Erica Bleeg

“Riding up to Allada, all packed together in a Peace Corps Land Cruiser, we knew we would soon be separated, so we didn’t say much.  Then one of us took out the photograph of her host family. The trainers had distributed them that morning, and soon all of us had our photos out and were comparing families, whom we would meet for the first time in less than an hour.”

The Culinary Wonder of La Belle Province
by Tim Simard

“On the corner of Maissoneauve and Lambert-Closse rests one of the best 24-hour diners in all of Montreal. Called Casse-Croute du Coin (“Casse-Croute” is Quebecois slang for “snack bar”), but otherwise known as Moe’s to the locals, this little greasy spoon has been feeding hungry Montrealers since the 1950s. Not a diner in the traditional American sense, Moe’s is located in a tree-lined, residential neighborhood with no other restaurants, save for a local convenience store. The establishment sits a little below street level, like a basement, right at the bottom of a twenty-floor student apartment building for nearby Concordia University. Students come here at all hours of the day to get breakfast, lunch and dinner. I, however, go there for the poutine.”
